Cesar - Autoportrait aux Lunettes (left profile), 1984

"It is my hands that make my head work" Cesar
From the end of the sixties, César made self-portraits but it was in the eighties that this classic theme inspired a lot the artist both in drawing and in sculpture, to lead to his masterpiece of 1985 Le Centaure

Le Centaure de César :
Monumental sculpture by César designed between 1983 and 1985 and installed in Paris in the Saint-Germain-des-Prés, place Michel-Debré, in the 6th arrondissement of the capital. It is a bronze of almost 5 m. high. The head of the sculpture is the self-portrait of Cesar and the visor mask on the forehead represents the face of Pablo Picasso, master and friend of the sculptor. A powerful work, with an imposing presence, the Centaure is made up of an assemblage of massages, everyday objects cast in bronze and metal plates.
