"Louis Marcoussis has been one of the most original of all Cubists. The "dear painter of poets" as Paul Eluard called him held in particular that his paintings possessed an irreproachable quality craftsmanship, and took all care to their manufacture.
Concerned with the tradition, He was brought, from 1919, to use a technique which had been widespread in the nineteenth century and in the popular arts: the fixed under glass, which is obtained by painting with oil behind a window . This technique, like those of engraving or fresco, requires a great safety of the hand, allowing neither overload nor repentance. The material placed on the reverse side of the presented surface can be very smooth, without any accident and very precise contours. From 1919 to 1928, Marcoussis made about a hundred set pieces, some of which are pure masterpieces. "
