From 1914, Survage made stays in Nice and began his famous Pink Period, the culmination of his career, which lasted until the end of the first war. In this respect, the artist wrote: "It was in the wonderful Côte d'Azur that one day I had the desire to fix in a painting, on a canvas, what I saw and loved around me. ... »
Survage's masterpiece of this period is Villefranche-sur-Mer, 1915, in the collection of the Musée National d’Art Moderne, Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris.
